1/30/12: Living Thing

Sunglasses (Liz Claiborne)
Scarf (Wet Seal)
Dress (Max Studio)
Velvet Boots (Dr. Marten)

Happy Monday! I like Mondays, they feel fresh and like new beginnings. :) However, that doesn't change the fact that I was lost and confused for the majority of the day - I'm always running around and I sometimes feel that I never get anything done!

One thing that I am pretty excited about is a possible collaboration I have in the works! I won't spill the beans quite yet, but stay tuned. ;)

1/29/12

Patterned Scarf (vintage)
Oversized sweater (secondhand)
Distressed skinnies (Levi's, "too superlow")
Platform Boots (Goodwill)

I like my Sunday super cozy, and there's nothing more comfortable in my closet than this oversized to-the-max sweater! :)

The scarf came in a box with other scarves and vintage hair accessories as a gift from my grandmother, and this has become one of my favorite vintage pieces. Although I'd love to participate in the pastels trend, I've been sticking to my tried and true jewel tones. I'm having trouble finding one that doesn't wash me out. :l Anybody have any suggestions?

Anyway, I'm back home again after spending a wonderful weekend with the semi-long-distance DBF, and although I'm glad to be back to my blogging and such, I always miss him way too soon. :( I'm sure a lot of you have it worse than us because we're only about 40 miles apart at the moment, but it's still tough. Ah, well - Distance makes the heart grow fonder, eh? ;)

We watched Up in the Air which is super cute (directed by Jason Reitman, who also directed Juno) and Tropic Thunder, which I found to be surprisingly very funny. I'd recommend them both, although if you're not a fan of crude humor or if you're easily offended, Tropic Thunder is probably not for you. (I admit, I was offended by some of the humor!)

On Saturday, I started to draw which I don't usually do (and am not very good at, but progress, not perfection. ;D). It's on a big poster board and it's not finished yet, but I'm impressed with it thus far and wanted to share! Keep in mind that I didn't bring my camera, so I took it with my cell phone; photo quality is sub par.

It's supposed to be an old gnarly tree in front of a guitar fence. I'll have to post more photos when it's finished!

I'm off to make dinner now, but thank's for reading and see you next time!

1/27/12: Basic Space

Velvet Plaid Shirt (Jones New York)
Dress (BCBG)
Platform Boots (Goodwill)

So today I wanted to keep it pretty comfy and casual, but I do like to dress up a little bit on Fridays; I figured this dress would be a happy medium :) I haven't worn my velvet plaid shirt in a while, and it was about time I brought it out again!

I deep conditioned my hair last night, and I can really tell the difference. It's so soft and shiny and way less tangled than it's been in at least a month - I've been slacking something awful on doing deep treatments lately. If anybody's interested in trying something new for their hair, it's really a simple recipe!

Clovebud's Deep Hair Conditioner Recipe

3 parts coconut oil (unrefined, preferably)
1 part hemp oil (you can sub olive oil, but I recommend the hemp!)
1/2 part olive oil
1 drop rosemary oil

combine oils, and nuke in the microwave for about 10 seconds until the coconut oil is melted. Swish together or stir - you don't need a lot! I usually only use about one teaspoon coconut oil (1/3 teaspoon hemp, etc) but if you've got longer or thicker hair I'd double that. Any unused oil can be kept in the fridge for probably at least 2 months if you like.

I just brush my hair back into a ponytail (If you've had one in already, it's good to take it out and brush to remove shed hairs) and then I apply the oil liberally to the ends. (Sometimes I'll just dip the tail end into the oil and it soaks up the whole batch if it's that dry!) I like to sleep with it in, and the next morning wash out with shampoo and conditioner. If you don't want to do that, and hour or two should suffice. :)

Anyways, I'm going to stay with my semi-long-distance boyfriend for the weekend, and it's time to pack. See you next time :D

1/25/12 One Thing About Forsythia...

Beanie (F21)
Scarf (secondhand)
Denim Jacket (Abercrombie & Fitch, Vintage)
Velvet Dress (Secondhand)
Boots (Goodwill)

So the title of today's post comes from Forsythia by Veruca Salt. It's a song off of their album American Thighs, which I adore. Other than that, it's really just entirely unrelated to the outfit; however, if you're into grunge punk girl power music, I'd highly reccommend you check them out!

Anyways, this is one of my more relaxed, weekend/running errand type get-ups. No themes, no channelling to my inner gypsy beatnik fighter pilot (although that's actually a pretty sick idea.) The jacket is really becoming one of my signature pieces - Abercrombie vintage jackets are super durable and fit very well. I picked this scarf up on a whim last year, and I really like the way it pairs with the colour in these boots. Nifty thrifty. :)

Clovebud - Not a B*llSh*t Fashion Blog

Hey guys, sorry for the offensive title - I feel very strongly about this topic and wasn't sure that any other, less profane language could articulate my feelings quite as well. Let's call this a "Clovebud: After Dark" or a "Clovebud: Off Duty" post. ;) Truth is, I've been putting a lot of thought into my (future) posts as of late - particularly about how to create a more interesting and involving blog, and decided to launch a self intervention.

Hey, my name is Clovebud and I'm addicted to boring photo blogging.

It's awful - especially because I've already got a Tumblr as well as a Pinterest. What is this insane compulsion I face to post photos without even a paragraph of text? I mean, let's face it - I'm 20 years old and have copious amounts of free time opposed to a lot of other people, so what I've been doing is essentially just lazy, passive blogging. I've got no excuse, either - on and off, I've been blogging with various platforms since age 12.

However, I promise that this will end.

Truth is, I've made the common mistake of reading too much into successful blogging. I've become afraid to put myself out there and be original on my posts, which is ludicrous when you think about how eccentric my outfits can be. Not that I necessarily want to be too out there, but nobody likes a pretentious fashion blogger. Also, I think that certain outfits can lose a great deal of their appeal without a proper explanation.

For example, my last outfit post wold have made much more sense if I had mentioned that I was channeling my inner Southwestern Neo-goth that day, Right? (Or perhaps not, but to each their own. ;D)

So anyways, this post is just a little something for my fellow n00b bloggers as well as myself to let you know that I fully support anybody else who's trying to get their voice out into the vast sea of fashion media. Also, It's something like 3:30am and I'm really too exhausted to have inhibitions.

That's my que. See you next time :)

1/23/12

Bomber Jacket (F21)
Denim Shirt (H&M)
Circle Skirt (A'gaci, secondhand)

I was really wary about adding accessories to this look, because the silhouette is really the star of the show and I felt that jewelery or scarves would be too distracting. I'm surprised at how easy it is to fit these wedge booties into my wardrobe! Very soon I'll be incorporating a lot more pastels (which I love, miss, and are trending like mad for the Spring 2012 Season) and prints, as well as a few small DIY features - So stay tuned!

PS, have you 'liked' my Facebook Page yet? If you would take the time to do so, I would muchly appreciate it! :)

1/22/12

coat (free people)
lace up shorts (rampage)
wedge boots (kelsi dagger)

These short are probably one of my favorite pairs, if not one of my favorite items in general. I think the lace up fly is really cute and edgy, and they fit like a glove :)

The boots were a Christmas gift, and I'd totally forgotten I had them in my closet until today! I might DIY them - Any ideas?
